Executive summary

Project Info / Background

The Urban Sense Lab from SoAD at KMUTT participated in Bangkok Design Week 2004 with the project Bangmot Grow with the Flow. The project explored the quality of life and environment along Bangkoks canals through installations combining lighting design, architecture, and urban planning. It focused on wastewater treatment and waste separation through artistic exhibits, including converting waste into functional lighting and promoting sustainable farming. The exhibition also featured the Sustaloom installation, symbolizing sustainable practices with interactive, ecofriendly activities for visitors.

Objective

Sustalom is an iconic harbor gate with floating gardens that symbolize Safetist Farm's sustainable farming practices. The gate also symbolizes visitors' care for nature and positive hope for the future. By exchanging organic waste with large seeds. Visitors can paint glow in the dark paint and decorate the docks, while farms can use their compost.

Project detail

Process

The project from KMUTT students addresses water management in fish habitats by integrating scientific analysis of water levels and density with canal design, and it culminates in an art installation reflecting these themes. The process involves collaboration between scientists and canal designers to develop a practical solution, which is then presented artistically in the project area. Concurrently, a ceramic artist from Bang Mot explores the canal's underwater life and history, creating ceramic pieces inspired by the submerged elementssuch as animals, objects, and memories. These ceramics are exhibited under a bridge in the Bang Mot Canal, transforming hidden underwater treasures into visible art for public appreciation.
